Big Salmon Fishing Resort had its 2nd. annual halibut derby! WOW...it was really an exhilarating way to end the 2006 U.S. halibut season.
Congratulations to the following WINNERS;
1st. place halibut winner Jeff Hueter, his halibut won weighing 198 pounds winning by only one pound to take home 1st. place prize.
( $1,500.00 )2nd. place halibut winner went to Mitch Staedt his halibut held the first place prize for two days at 197 pounds.
( $560.00 )1st. place went to Paul Seiler for his 34 pound lingcod.
( $200.00 )
1st. place for the largest black sea bass went to Rod Loewen his fish weighed 7 pounds.
( $175.00 )
We had 112 anglers purchase halibut derby tickets, more then last years derby. We hope to have more enter into our halibut derby next year!

Thank you all for taking part in our second annual halibut derby! It was a blast. At this time we have a halibut holding the first place spot at a whopping 197 pounds, second place holding in at 101 pounds, the largest lingcod at 34 pounds and the last but not the least a black sea bass at 7 pounds.
We have had a lot of interest in our derby this year. The second place halibut taking home $360.00 for a 25% of total buy-ins purchased.
First place halibut take home money $1,500.00
Second place halibut $360.00
Largest lingcod $200.00

After a month of not having very many people coming through our doors for about a month ... it was nice to see such a good turn-out for the two day halibut opener.

Please keep in mind that we will have our salmon season open here in area 4 June 30th., 2006. We hope to see you all here for that season! It looks like it will be a good salmon season.

We looked at our Charter books this morning and noticed in amazement that we don't have any bookings on two charter boats for the June 22nd and the June 24th U.S. Halibut opener!! What is up here? Well ... call today to make your charter boat excursion plans or very soon ask for the Windsong or the Sugarfoot they are both twelve person boats. We still have plenty of room on our Makah Marina for the Halibut opener, SO COME ON IN AND WE WILL FIND YOU A SPOT ON OUR MARINA!
ALSO, starting tomorrow morning at 4:30am we will begin selling the US Halibut Derby tickets at a $20.00 cost good for both days of the opener, Thursday, June 22 & Saturday, June 24. We will stop selling the tickets at noon on Saturday. The first prize halibut winner will recieve a $1,500.00 cash prize & the second prize halibut winner will recieve 25% of the total buy-ins for the derby. There will also be a prize for the largest lingcod, which will be $200.00, sponsered by The Cape Motel & Ritas RV Park. The final Prize given of the derby will be for the largest Black Sea Bass and will be for the total amount of $175.00, donated by the Makah Tribal Council. All the rules for the entire derby will be distributed at the time of ticket purchase. So grab your fishing pole and your lucky hat and come on down we look forward to seeing you here!!
