Salmon fishing is finally here with a bang. Anywhere the odfw hasent closed it should be good. Target salmon in the wind river drano bay area of the gorge. Although it will be real crowed the fishing should be great. I recommend staying away during the weekends and hitting the mouth of the Deschutes or below the Johnday dam. If you live on the east side there is no reason to go down river the fish are finally going over Mcnary dam in good numbers and the angler catch is starting to go up. Fish this area at the deadline below Mcnary dam or the mouth of the Umatilla river, and also straight across from the umatilla on the washington side of the river. Keep up on regs if you are traveling in because you can just about bet on the odfw closeing it or putting some tipe of new reg on it since last week. Good Luck. Sturgeon fishing is still fair depending on the spills through the dams. I do better personally if the water has dropped a little bit. Until the shad show up my bait of choice is squid or roll mop herring. Fishing the Johnday deadline or Mcnary deadline is producing some keeper fish if you put in your time. Dont be afraid to move around if the fish are not there. Some times you have to go down river to find them this time of year. Bass fishing is starting to get good we are picking up fish in the riprap areas around points and the gravel spawing areas in eight to twelve feet of water. Look for it to just get better and better as we get into May. Fish will move on in and start to protect there beds as the water gets into the mid fifty degree range. Right now it is about fifty one degrees. Walleye fishing has been good all winter and spring long. It has been a very good year for big fish and eater size fish. If the last year is any indication this summer should be great. Lots of smaller fish tells me that the last couple of years have seen great spawns.The fishing is starting to slow a little because of the post spawn,but I dont think the slow down is going to last very long with the numbers of fish there are. Once they come back on the bite mid to late May it should be good fishing all summer long. Book early if you are interested in a summer walleye trip June and July are all ready half booked.
