Went on are annual Halibut fishing trip last weekend rough seas. Caught are halibut but they wont let you bottom fish after you get your halibut anymore that was a bummer. It realy didnt matter though because it was rough, fifteen foot seas and when we all got are fish we were ready for the boat to get to the dock, longest two and a half hour trip I ever took. All in all it was a good trip. Been doing alot of bass fishing the last couple of weeks lots of fish.
Sturgeon: Fishing has slowed down with all the water that they are pushing through the spill ways.Look for it to start to pick up in the next week or two as the water starts to warm with the weather. Move down away from the dams and find the current breaks along the deeper holes. Squid is still the bait of choice.
Walleye: Fishing is starting to pick back up as they come off of there post spawn. Look for it to get better as the water gets up over the 60 degree mark. Pull spinners down stream in 21 to 26 feet of water for the best action.
Bass: This should be about the peek of the pre spawn. If you are wanting to catch bass the next couple of weeks is going to be the best time of the year. Small cranks, tubes and twister tails will all be productive.Fish anywhere from two feet to ten feet along rip rap shore lines. I dont even take my boat when I bass fish. Remember to take care of the females and release as there are about to spawn. We keep a few males to eat and turn the rest loose.
Shad: Shad fishing has reopened on the columbia river. The fishing should realy start to pick up as they push water through the dams. By the first of june they should be in to Bonneville in good numbers. By mid june they should be up to johnday dam and by late june Mcnary. Hope that Im close because we have a big trip coming up for shad mid june. Small jigs plain gold hook, shad killers, triple teasers anything small and bright seems to work good.
Remember to book early for best dates. Summer fishing is booking fast. Good luck see you on the water. Bob Roberts
