BOOKING NOW.........COLUMBIA RIVER KEEPER/OVERSIZE STURGEON & DRANO LAKE SUMMER STEELHEAD!!!!!
The final day of the Drano Lake Springer season, I was able to make a trip with my 9 year old daughter and we had a great time!!! We were able to boat 4 fish but had to release one large native....and ended up 3 for 4 by 10:30 am!!!
Now, it's the best time to concentrate and fish the Columbia River keeper and oversize sturgeon below Bonneville Dam along with the shad fishery......These prehistoric fish (sturgeon) will test your ability, endurance and fishing tackle to the upmost extent. Sturgeon retention is Thursday-Sunday, we are catching many Keepers (42-60in)and this is prime time to experience the Columbia River Sturgeon with the oversize strictly catch and release any day of the week. The go to bait for oversize, of course, is whole shad and primary bait for keepers are smelt, scented squid and live sandshrimp.
I only have a few days open during the week of the 8th of June.
After the 16th of June, I am heading to Alaska to help guide on one of the most premier fisheries, the Nushagak River. The river camp is "The Alaskan King Salmon Adventures"..... visit their web: www.alaskakingsalmon.com for more info, I'm very excited to be a part of this fishery and cannot wait to be there...
Feel free to give me a call and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have......
I will not have any cell phone service there, So drop me an e-mail or a phone message and after the 16th of June, as soon as I get back (July 16) , I will get back to you.......!!!!!!!!!
Boat Safely.!!!

I was able to take my daughter, Alissa, out fishing this past Sunday to Drano Lake....And again she outfishes Dad!!! I enjoy taking her fishing very much and she looks forward to these trips with Dad!! We were able to bring 4 fish to the boat but had to release one because it was a native.
For those of you that were able to make it to Drano Lake this past spring, we all know that the huge forcasted return didn't materialize as we expected......Fishing was tough, and many of us were wondering if the Springers would ever show up, we had a couple of days of exellent fishing, but as soon as the Tribal nets went in above Bonneville Dam, it completely shut down the fishery at Drano Lake and even after the nets were removed the fishing at Drano never really recovered.....
The counts over Bonneville Dam were unusal this year....usually we see a steady incline in numbers and peaks for a week or so and then a steady decline in numbers. This spring, the numbers were all over the place....you would see it building then drop back down to low numbers...it was like this most of the season..with the highest count being around 9600 then dropping back down to 1800 in a matter of days.....
I'm sure that many of us "regulars" live for only for these Springers at Drano Lake and after to talking to several others, they themselves plan there vacations around this fishery and look forward to it each and every year. For myself, this is my favorite fishery year after year, I meet many great people and enjoy their company. I will keep fishing it spring after spring as long as we are able too.
Now, I am Booking for the Keeper/Oversize Sturgeon with Shad fishing below Bonneville Dam and the Summer Steelhead at Drano Lake.......However on June 14th, I will be heading to Alsaka to help out guiding on one of the river camps on the Nushagak River and return around the 15th of July....Shoot me an email if your interested in booking a trip....for sturgeon or steelhead..
Hope to hear from you soon,Dave

I have the 16th, 17th and the 18th of April open for Bonneville Springers, and some days open in May for Drano Lake area Springers....Call as soon as possible if you want to get in on this years record run!!!
These beautiful fish are crowding the lower Columbia River and there is more coming everyday....These fish are being caught and it is just the beginning of the run....!!!
Today we fished below Bonneville with a boat limit, even the guide was able to take home a fish!!! With all these fish being caught in the lower Columbia, I am hoping that the season at least stays open until the end of April.....But we shall see and hope that it does..!!
I am planning on fishing the Drano Lake area beginning April 20th, but I will have to keep a close eye on the fish counts over Bonneville Dam and stay in contact with some of the area guides.
The picture above was a springer that my daughter had caught at Drano Lake last year...She's quite the pro now and she is looking forward to catching more this year!!!
If you haven't booked a trip yet for this record run...you need to do it now because all of my other guide friends are booking dates with only a few days left....So hurry and book now!!!

NOW BOOKING SPRING CHINOOK TRIPS APRIL 1ST THRU MAY 30TH !!!!!!!!!!!Monster Drano Lake spring chinook run is forecasted for this coming spring!!!!!!
This years spring chinook forecasted run over Bonneville Dam is 269,300, which strongly surpasses last years run of 86,000. The fish this spring are compromised of mostly 4 year olds, so there will be some nice sized ones to be had.
A record high 36,800 spring chinook salmon are predicted to enter Drano Lake...........
The last time we had a huge return was back in 2002 with a return of 20,600 spring salmon.....I remember that year very well, we had limited the boat for 3 weeks straight with numerous doubles...
The fishing was just downright awesome!!!With these numbers for this years spring run, the fishing should be nothing short of spectacular!!!!
So give me a call or e-mail me and let me know if you're interested in booking a trip....At this point and time we have plenty of prime dates available, but I know that they won't last long....
Contact me for your day on the water and we'll get you "Hooked Up"!!!!!Dave

BOOKING NOW FOR SPRING CHINOOK SALMON!!!!
Hello everyone.....Wanted to let you all know that we are now booking trips for Spring Chinook....I am very limited on the availability of open days. The only days, as of now that are open, are Sundays and Mondays....Special pricing for these two days for a party of 4 will be $500 or $600 for a party of 6, for a full days fishing.
Drano Lake is my favorite to fish....so I am looking forward to this season
The Spring Chinook run this year will be over 40% lower than last year, but Drano Lake (16 miles above Bonneville Dam) will have the best "springer" returning numbers from the rest of the tributaries above Boneville Dam with a 2 hatchery fish limit. Wind River is predicted to only have about 2,000 fish return, with only a 1 hatchery fish limit, last years return was 4,700.
Action is picking up from Cathlamet to Vancouver, the commercials have caught their fish quota so with these guys done for now we should see more fishing activity taking place with catches improving.
Feel free to contact me to reserve a fishing day....
See you on the water.....

OCTOBER 2nd, 2006
We are now fishing the Hanford Reach area for Fall Chinook and the fishing has been fair.....we have been putting a few fish in the boat, with a few sturgeon. With other reports that I have been hearing from the anglers fishing a little further downriver, the area that we are fishing at, should start producing some very good catches, it is just a matter of time before fishing becomes exceptional.....
I personally like to fish when the water flows are high, unlike other guides which like it when the flows are lower....Fisherman are using a variety of baits and lures the entice the chinook, with the go to lure being the sardine-wrapped Kwik-fish or Flatfish. Cut-Plug Herring works well also along with spinners and Magnum Wiggle warts. Most of the presentations are made by either downriggers or jumbo jet divers.
At this point I have limited seating available, so if you would like to have a chance at this fishery give me a call ASAP.See you on the water
