Well, we've made the big move to Vancouver, Wa and this area looks great. One of the reasons for the move is to get closer to the fishing areas and to be able to fish more on my time off. I fished in this area sometime ago and spent alot of time while I was growing up mousing around looking for places to fish and learning to fish. Finally I'm here.
A week ago Sunday, Mark my step-son and I, spent the day Smelt dipping on the Cowlitz. We walked away with 10 lb. limits in about 20 minutes. Everyone on the bank were doing very well. Last night we heard that the Lewis river had massive smelt and the limit went up to 20 lbs. per person. So Mark and I went the next morning and picked up my dad who lives in Woodland, we didn't see too many people dipping but the people we did see were all coming out with limits. Smelt were all over and when you dipped you came out with anywhere from 20 to 30 smelt per dip so it didn't take long to get our limits.
The Sturgeon fishing has been a little slow, one of the reasons is because the sturgeon have been gorging themselves with smelt and the weather is pretty cool so the bite is light. During this time you need to inject your smelt with scent and most of the time this seems to bring the bit on.
Tomorrow were going dipping for smelt again on the Lewis, more bait!
