June 23-25: We ran a GREAT three-day trip with lots of good fishermen. Mike Falconieri and his 13 year old son Michael (760-751-8898), and Michael's friend Sean Rodgers (760-747-9546) all of Valley Center, CA made up one boat. Jim Clark of Beaverton, OR and his brother-in-law, Gary Schneekloth of Evergreen, CO made up another boat. Tom Johnson of Salem, Curt Kurtz and his son Matthew of Lakewood, CA (562-402-5449) made up another boat. The water was running around 65 degrees and the river below 1000 CFS, and the fishing was super. These eight fishermen (Jim and Gary were fly fishing the whole trip) caught 1903 smallies.Matthew Kurtz boated 128 the first day, 113 the second and only 84 the last day (imagine only 84). Dad, Mike boated 123 on the second day, and Sean boated 113 on the first day, but Micheal boated 116 the first day, 130 the second day, and 116 the last day. That's a lot of fish for one person, especially a 13 year old who had never fished the river before. We have 12 multi-day trips sceduled for 2006 and three of them are already "sold out", so give us a call so we can get you on a fish catching trip. Also Micheal caught a nice 4-5 pound catfish the last night.

June 21: I had one fishermen, Lee Willinger (405-360-6803) of Norman, OK. Lee had 56 fish at lunch and ended up with 105 and joined our 100+ Club on his first trip on the John Day River. It was 49 in Fossil, 55 at the river and the water was 64 degrees, running 1110 CFS on a clear day.

George Hadley and Skip Geer had three fishermen for their second day on the water. They were fly fishing and caught some nice fish.;

June 20: George and Skip took five friends: Tim Murphy of Salem, OR;Tom Palandech also of Salem; Martin Fond of Verrirn, CA;Jeff Butler of Woodburn; and Dan O'leary of Salem. They were all fly fishing and having a great time on the water catching smallmouth bass.

I took Rich Green and his 13 year old daughter Ana (503-434-6496) from McMinnville, OR. It was 54 in Fossil, 61 at the river and the water was 60 degrees, flowing 1110 CFS, on a clear day. Rich caught 81 smallies, but Ana got a nice Trophy 18" on her first time out.
