March 22, 2008: I feel very fortunate because I get to meet such wonderful people guiding folks fishing. Today I had two super guys, Father and Son, Al Lewis (503-658-3378), Boring, Or. and his son, Tom Lewis (503-738-3268), Cannon Beach, OR. Both great anglers and ready for a day of fishing. It was 19 in Fossil at 5 AM, 28 at the river, and the water was 38 degrees (burr), 3240 CFS and falling, 7-8 clarity, and very clear and sunny. Our first bite came at 2:10 PM and our first smallmouth at 3 PM. Tom boated a nice 19" smallmouth, but his Dad lead the way with a 20 1/8" Master Angler, and two other smallmouth for a total of four boated. Tom was center-pin fly fishing and boated the Trophy 19", but lost two huge fish when they came to the surface and spit the jig out. The water did warm up to 41 deperees and the air temp wass 54 in the afternoon.
