03/31/2008 Entry: ""

March 31, 2008: Yes a couple of days have pasted since I went fishing. Explaination: my Wife, Linda's , Presents Day (birthday) was Saturday and "no way" could I be out on a trip; Sunday's weather was not supposed to be any good, and it wasn't-way to cold and nasty. But Monday things looked good and the sun shone all day long. I took Brad Bell of Pasco, WA, 509-547-3326, and Steve Fletcher, Fairview, OR, 503-807-7644. It was 25 in Fossil at 4:30 AM, 30 at the river, water was 38 cold degrees, 2360 CFS and dropping (it went up yesterday with Saturdays warmth and Friday's snow), 4-5 clarity, on a very clear day. First fish went to Steve at 7:55 AM with a native steelhead female. He caught it right in front of a Bald Eagle's watchfull eye. THEN IT STARTED STEVE CAUGHT 21" x 14 1/2" MASTER ANGLER SMALLMOUTH BASS, 18" TROPHY SMALLMOUTH BASS, 20" x 13" MASTER ANGLER SMALLMOUTH, AND FINALLY A 21 1/2" x 14" MASTER ANGLER SMALLMOUTH BASS. THAT'S RIGHT THREE MASTER ANGLER SMALLMOUTH BASS IN ONE DAY, AND THE ONLY TIME THAT'S HAPPENED BEFORE WAS ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO WHEN STEVE FLETCHER'S GOOD FRIEND, ROYAL PROCTOR, DID IT. Brad also caught Trohpy 18" smallmouth, and Steve caught another native steelhead in the afternoon. Most of the fish were caught on crankbait with a rattle in it, and 1/8 oz leadhead with a 5" Outlaw Bait worm covered with Smelly Jelly Craw/Anise.
