April 4, 2008: Doug Rauen and Julian Critchfield, 503-639-8720, or Tigard came up to fish today. Doug has been coming up and fishing for almost 15 years, and has a number of Master Angler and 100+ days under his belt, but today was Julian's. It was 34 in Fossil at 4:30 AM, 41 at the river, and the water was 44 degrees, 1950 CFS and falling, 4-5 clarity, overcast, and calm. Doug boated the first smallmouth at 9:30 Am and we had 3 smallies at lunch. We ended the day with 9 fish, and Julian caught his first Trophy 18" smallie, and then boated his first Master Angler Smallmouth bass 21" X14" before the day was over. It was 40 in the afternoon and rain/snow/sleet and the water was still 44.
