April 28th: The Wright Chevy Annual Trip, nine adults and two great kids fished from Service Creek down for one beautiful day. River was flowing 3700 CFS, 50 degree water, three on the clarity scale, one a clear warm day. They caught 107 fish, mostly on 3" grubs with Smelly Jelly Craw/Anise and Bass Feast. Denny Goodwin (541-384-4189) caught two Master Angler (20"+) Smallmouth, one was 22" X 14" and the other was 20 1/.2" X 13 1/2". Super job Denny!! April 23rd: The Christian Destiny Group went out to the Private Largemouth Lake and caugth 108 largemouth with the biggest going to Don Guthrie, 360-832-3175, of Eatonville, Wa. It was a very windy day and made grub fishing difficult, but they prevailed.
April 22nd: The "Fishers of Men" as we call them, or the pastors from Christian Destiny Center in Puyallup, Wa. came to Fossil to fish for two days. There were nine Christian fishermen who walked away with 123 smallmouth that were for the most part 12"-14" fish, except for two monsters. Dr. Sam Benson, 253-952-5745, caught a 22" X 14" Master Angler Smallmouth in a spot where we've not taken one before, so we now have a hole named the Sam Benson Hole. Shortly thereafter Steve Gandara, 253-862-5858, caught a hog, 20 1/2" X 15" Master Angler Smallmouth in a spot where we've not taken one before, so now we have a hole named the Steve Gandara Hole. Most of the fish were taken on grubs fished on the bottom with lots of Smelly Jelly Craw/Anise. Today's fishing was a good example
of the power of prayer. AmenSunday, April 21, 2002

The last for days would have been little to no fish days on the river. Thanks to the Private Largemouth Lake we still had quality trips.
April 15th: Jeff Blaine Albany, Or. and high school friend Noah Kirkland from Olympia cam to fish the river but ended up on the Lake. The river is still rising and getting dirtier, it looks like it will be blown out till next Friday or Saturday at the earliest. The weather was clear and nice when we start then got nasty. they caught about 20 fish with Noah catching a 18" fish. With the barometer dropping the smallmouth or largemouth will drop down, so we fished on the bottom with grubs.
April 14th: John and Leslie Upton fished the private largemouth lake and fought the windy cool weather. We boated 25+ fish with most again coming on grubs covered with Smelly Jelly. It clared off the last hour but the fish were still staying down with their mouth closed.
April 13th: we ran two trips at the lake. Larkin DeYoung and Bill Heilman from the Portland area, and Bruce and Micheal Meredith (Malardith Northwest 541-328-6440). We caught in total about 75 fish with some nice 18" fish coming on a Norman Lure,Middle N Brown/Chart (MN NDC9). Skip and I can't wait to try it out on the river. We caught fish on both crankbaits and grubs, but still no top water action. The lake has warmed up to 53 degrees and the small largemouth and bluegill are active. The bluegill are not in the numbers above.
April 12th: we ran two trips with Barry and June Snook (503-266-3411) and son David Giller, and Skip had Dan Hawkey. June and David caught a lot of fish and the two boat total was easily over 100 largemouth. They also caught lots of bluegill in 20 minutes while we were putting the boats in. Barry boated a great largemouth 20 1/2" X 15" on a grub late in the day. Crankbait and the grubs were really working.
April 10th: Jeff and Kim Sharon (208-773-0625) from Post Falls, Idaho. Fished with Skip on a rising river. They caught some nice smallies, but only 20 today. Kim got a nice 19 1/2" fish. 3" grubs with lots of Smelly Jelly were the ticket today.
