Evening fishing for Brown's 14-22 inches was good at East Lake the last few days. 11-14 inch Atlantic Salmon are a real nusiance while fishing for Browns. All species are crusing the wedbeds and are easily taken on Callibaetis nymphs.
Steelhead in SW Washington Streams went off the bite withthe record high temps recorded in the Portland metro area. Cowlitz was best before recent hot spell.Temps are moderating and I believe fishing will improve very quickly. Kalama fish were very spooky and hiding in the whitewater. Smaller flies and baits will get them. Lewis has been a disappointment the last 2 weeks. Not near as many fish as last year yet the hatchery claims big numbers are being recycled.I know every inch of this river and the fish are just not there in the numbers we have seen in the past.
Deschutes has fish and the anglijng was GOOD before the heat. It will be fine as tems return to normal.
Wickiup Res. was very low and this worries me. I like high flows in the Deschutes. Deschutes Trout bite is great in the evenings. Tan and Black Caddis. Size 16 Elk hair will catch all the fish you want in the shadows of twilight.
Spending the weekend on the Phone Booking BUOY 10 / COLUMBIA SALMON TRIPS IN AUGUST & DESCHUTES TROUT & STEELHEAD IN SEPT. & OCT. Hope you enjoy the great fishing while I am on the phone :(
