Shad & Sturgeon Combo Trips
These popular trips include fishing for shad with light tackle and then going
for Sturgeon (using the shad for bait). Shad are sometimes called the "poor
man's tarpon." Pound for pound they are one of the hardest fighting fish that
swims. On light tackle they are known as legendary fighters. It is not uncommon
for shad to break water and then dive to the bottom using the current to their
advantage in order to break you off! Shad average 2 to 4 pounds and it is not
unusual to catch 20 plus fish per rod. During May & June the Shad run hits the
Bonneville dam area. The Combo Trip is tons of fun, but if you prefer to spend
the entire day fishing for Sturgeon I usually have lots of Shad on hand.
To book
your dream trip:
PEAK time for Shad is May thru June in the Willamette River at Oregon City or
on the Columbia River at the Bonneville Dam area.
